The Directorate of Research, Grants and Endowments conducted a two-day training workshop on Research Ethics at Mount Kenya University Happy Valley Graduation Pavilion on 7th and 8th April, 2016. Members of MKU Ethics Research Committee (ERC), Campus and Schools’ Research Coordinators attended the workshop facilitated by Ms. Caroline Kithinji, Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and KEMRI Ethics Review Committee member and Mrs. Hellen Malechi, a lecturer at Daystar University. During this two-day training workshop, participants were trained on ethics review of research protocol and proposals. The following topics were covered:  

  1. Role and responsibility of Stakeholders in the Research Enterprise
  1. Background and importance of Health Research Ethics
  2. Risk/Benefit Analysis of Research Protocols
  3. Review of Research Proposals/Protocols
  4. Dissemination of Research Findings
  5. Informed Consent
